Laura and her eternal-passionate affair with the dance of life...
|
Armentality: "what comes around goes around" Her lifelong experiences as a performing artist and her devotion to teaching dance and yoga have prepared Laura Armenta not only with a strong set of physical skills to pass along but also with a contagious affection for these practices.
“Everybody should dance and do yoga,” Laura insists, as if these routines were as vital as eating or breathing. Simply because she believes that they are.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Laura earned her degree in fine arts and humanities with a specialty in modern dance and choreography from Mexico’s Fine Arts Institute. She performed professionally with Ballet Teatro del Espacio under acclaimed French director Michele Descombey. Subsequently, she’s has studied and worked alongside such renowned dance masters as Anna Sokolow, Rudolf Nureyev, Diego Pinon, Jeremy Nelson and Daniel Nagrin.
Beyond her extensive formal training, Laura has tirelessly pursued independent research and study. She has chosen the path of a non-traditional dancer and instructor, informing her style with the patterns of different cultures and tribal groups from around the world.

Laura dances and teaches ethnic dance forms that span the globe, from Mexican Colonial to Afro-Caribbean Dance to Asian forms such as Bharatantyum and Bhangra Dance to Middle Eastern forms including belly dancing to Cuban Salsa to Hip-Hop. She believes that “far from segregating us, dance unites humankind. Understanding ethnic dance forms helps us see how cultures evolved and points to our common origins.“
Since 1991, Laura has also been a dedicated yogini and holistic health practitioner. While recovering from reconstructive knee surgery, she first learned meditation and pranayama (conscious breathing) before practicing asanas (yoga body poses). Laura is a certified yoga instructor from the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA. She continues to learn and practice various yoga forms from master teachers including Ganga White, Baron Baptist, Jimmy Barkan and Sri. Swami Mayatitananda.

Finally, Laura is a certified practitioner of "Nuat Phaen Boran," known as Yoga-Thai Therapy, as well as a Ayurvedic Medicine-base wellness consultant. As a strong believer in the integration of mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing, Laura offers these holistic health practices to her yoga and/or dance students – simply to round out their practices or to help clients recover from injuries or illness that otherwise limit other activities.
Whether she’s choreographing and leading a dance workshop on the road, teaching one of her regular yoga class at home in West Michigan or performing one-on-one Yoga-Thai therapy, Laura is well loved for her positive, supportive approach, compassionate spirit and good humor. All of these characteristics go a long way to achieving the true objective of Armentality – which is simply to help you enjoy a happier, healthier, fuller life.
