Trainee Lab

Empower Yourself through Movement, Honor Global Traditions, and Elevate Your Artistry

The Armentality Trainee Lab

The Armentality Trainee Lab (ATL) is a specialized movement program designed for semi-professional dancers and dedicated advanced students aged 21 and older. It offers a unique opportunity for dancers to reignite their passion for dance and somatic movement, whether returning after a break or seeking to deepen their existing practice. AATL provides an inclusive and nurturing space for individuals ready to integrate their life experiences into their artistic expression.

Program Overview

Unlike programs focused on youth, ATL is uniquely tailored to adult dancers who bring maturity, depth, and real-life experiences to their craft. Whether stepping back into dance after a year or a decade, participants are welcomed into a safe and creative environment where they can rebuild their artistry with confidence and joy.

The program offers full immersion in movement disciplines, emphasizing:

  • Dance Technique Refinement
Participants train in modern and contemporary dance styles, focusing on refining technical skills while rediscovering the joy of movement.

  • Functional Movement & Holistic Arts
Functional movement training complements dance technique, enhancing physical strength, flexibility, and longevity. Holistic practices, including somatic exploration and mindfulness, nurture mind-body awareness and self-care. The program prioritizes internal growth as much as external performance, cultivating self-trust and artistic authenticity.

  • Exclusive Access to Laura Armenta’s Repertoire
Participants gain the rare opportunity to study and perform selections from Laura Armenta Dance Company’s repertoire, a dynamic body of work spanning over four decades. This experience sharpens technical skills and deepens participants’ understanding of Laura’s innovative and culturally rich choreography.

  • Performance Opportunities
In addition to regular classes, dancers will perform in professional settings, gaining valuable stage experience and collaborating on projects within the Armentality Group.

Personalized Mentorship & Artistic Development

A cornerstone of the Armentality Trainee Lab is the personalized mentorship led by Laura Armenta. Each student receives one-on-one guidance tailored to their unique needs and artistic aspirations. This mentorship encompasses:

  • Career Development: Whether re-entering the dance world or advancing an existing career, participants receive guidance to craft a sustainable and fulfilling path in dance and movement arts.

  • Artistic Exploration: Mentorship supports the creative process, aiding dancers in developing original choreographies, exploring new styles, and expanding their movement vocabulary. Laura Armenta’s expertise in cross-cultural and multidisciplinary art forms enables dancers to discover unique intersections of tradition and innovation.

A Multidisciplinary, Culturally Diverse Approach

The Armentality Trainee Lab is built on a foundation of multidisciplinary artistry, encouraging students to explore a wide range of styles—from contemporary and modern dance to various somatic disciplines. The program emphasizes the connection between ancient dance traditions and contemporary practices, fostering a deep appreciation for cultural diversity in movement.

This holistic perspective broadens dancers’ artistic horizons, shaping them into versatile, well-rounded performers capable of expressing complexity and depth through their craft.
