WOMANHOOD

Rituals, Mythology, and Other Stages

A movement. A performance. A living anthology.

WOMANHOOD — Rituals, Mythology, and Other Stages is more than a stage production: it is a bold manifesto and an open invitation to witness, reflect, and reclaim the power in women’s stories—raw, real, and resolutely honest.

Born from the creative vision of choreographer and director Laura Armenta, WOMANHOOD is rooted in four decades of artistic and personal evolution. What began as a personal reckoning—with the many layers and contradictions of her own womanhood—has expanded into a multidisciplinary tapestry, blending dance-theater, poetry, and music to give voice to stories both intimate and universal.

Here, “rituals” are more than ceremony; they are the habits, myths, and inherited scripts that shape, confine, and sometimes liberate women across generations and cultures. “Mythology” exposes the archetypes and social expectations we inherit—and choose to break. “Other stages” is a nod to every chapter, every performance, every rule we learn, resist, or reinvent—both onstage and in life itself.

The Experience

WOMANHOOD is unapologetically fierce, fiercely authentic, and deeply empowering. Each annual performance is a seamless fusion: dance becomes poetry in motion, music underscores vulnerability and triumph, and voices of different generations intermingle in a collaborative, ever-evolving ensemble. We do not shy away from the difficult or the delicate. Some stories celebrate victory. Some confront adversity. All are necessary. All are true.

Laura Armenta: Visionary, creator, director, and choreographer

The Council of creators, dancers, and poets includes:

  • Kaylee Koslowske: Assistant director, dancer, and poet

  • Shayna Marie—Writer, poet, and community organizer

  • Susan Clark - Writer, poet, and event organizer

We honor every woman who steps forward to share her truth, including Archana Sardar—Bharatanatyam Classical Indian Dance master teacher, choreographer, and educator; and trailblazers like 81-year-old Linda Triant, who graced our third annual event in March 2025—reminding us that every stage of womanhood is worthy of reverence and center stage.

Who Is This For?

WOMANHOOD welcomes adult audiences (18+) of all genders, identities, and backgrounds—especially those hungry for stories that challenge, inspire, and ignite growth. This is not for the indifferent; it is a gathering for those who care deeply about the transformative power of the performing arts. We exist somewhere between exclusivity and radical inclusion: you don’t have to be a woman to belong, but you do need to bring an open mind and a listening heart.

Beyond the Stage

The future of WOMANHOOD is already unfolding. What began as an annual performance and touring production now grows into a living brand—encompassing original merchandise, discussion panels, a forthcoming book, and a podcast devoted to honest, unvarnished conversations on honesty, intimacy, growth, and possibility.

Our stories do not end when the curtain falls; they ripple outward, inviting you to join us in dialogue, in artistry, and in building a more nuanced and empowered world.

Archana Sardar Bharatanatyam Dancer

“Womanhood deeply moved me!
Kaylee and Laura are extraordinary dancers, and I was inspired by the artistry, time, and dedication they invest in refining their distinctive choreographic style. I also appreciated how, with just seven artists, Laura—serving as director—beautifully embraced BIPOC communities, people with disabilities, and multiple generations.”

WOMANHOOD — Rituals, Mythology, and Other Stages

Where every woman’s story is art—bold, unedited, and worthy of the spotlight.
Where every stage of life—youth and age, triumph and struggle, hope and heartbreak—is honored as sacred ground.

Here, womanhood is not a single narrative. It’s a living mosaic: the whispered myths passed down by grandmothers, the private rituals of becoming, the seismic shifts that split us open and teach us how to heal. We celebrate the stories that rarely make it past polite conversation—the ones that challenge, disrupt, and ultimately connect us in our shared humanity.

WOMANHOOD invites you to pause and reflect on the complexity and richness of the feminine experience. You are called to witness not just performance, but transformation; not just the artist, but the truth behind every gesture and word.

This is an invitation—not only to observe, but to step into the circle. To listen, to question, to see yourself reflected in someone else’s journey. And—if you dare—to join the movement: to lend your voice, your story, your courage to a growing chorus that refuses silence and embraces possibility.

Because in WOMANHOOD, every experience is sacred, every story is worthy, and every witness is forever changed.
